This workshop will focus on the sustainability issues which designers, architects and engineers can directly influence in new non-domestic construction projects.

In particular it will introduce the following topics:

- Energy use and carbon emissions
- Water use
- Adapting to climate change
- Building pollutants
- Waste and recycling
- Environmental materials selection

It will also touch on wider issues such as sustainable drainage and integrating ecological features into buildings.

The seminar will assist attendees to:
- Gain a greater understanding of sustainability in terms of the policy and legislative requirements;
- Give informed advice to clients about sustainability, including advising at the briefing stage;
- Provide advice at the early design stages and understand what is required for planning applications and BREEAM.

The programme for the day includes:
- What is sustainable design and construction?
- What are the key drivers for sustainable construction?
- Setting sustainability objectives and targets.
- The key issues for building designers.

Soft and hard copy handouts are made available to attendees and certificates of attendance are issued for CPD purposes.
