The full footprint of an organisation encompasses a wide range of emissions sources, from direct use of fuels to indirect impacts such as employee travel or emissions from other organisations within the supply chain.
Calculating an organisation’s carbon footprint can be an effective tool for ongoing energy and environmental management. In addition, organisations increasingly want to calculate their carbon footprint in detail for public disclosure including:
• For Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or marketing purposes
• To fulfill requests from business or retail customers, or from investors
• To ascertain what level of emissions they need to offset in order to become ‘carbon neutral’.
For these reasons, a robust approach is needed, covering the full range of emissions the organisation is responsible for.
This course introduces the issues and drivers around Carbon Footprinting and includes a session on improving difficult cases, and also a workshop session to put the theory into practice. Delegates should come prepared to discuss their issues and bring data etc. so that as well as trying a case study they can actually develop their own action plan to take away with them.

Speaker:
Our speaker for the day is Dave Covell, who has been involved in climate change management and energy efficiency activities since the late 1980’s and has considerable experience in many industrial and commercial settings. During this time he has developed excellent relationships with clients, colleagues and peers. Dave has developed many GHG inventories for both national and international organisations that have included scopes 1, 2 and 3. He has an effective communication style and is passionate about the work he does. He has account managed major projects for EBRD, Hilton International, BAA and the Health Sector. His wealth of experience and expertise is widely recognised resulting in him being asked to participate in the WRI’s protocol development technical panel, speak at conferences and provide training both in the UK and abroad.
