Introduction

This new course has been designed around the new HSG 264 document, “Asbestos: The Survey Guide”, published by the HSE on 29 January 2010.

This is the first time the HSE has made the responsibility of the dutyholder so explicit in guidance and has devised the role of the asbestos Appointed Person. In relation to managing the risks from asbestos, there is more expected of the client than ever before.

Asbestos-related disease remains Britain’s biggest workplace killer, and is the biggest single cause of work-related deaths in Great Britain. Twenty tradesmen a week die in the UK from this cause alone. Asbestos could be present in any building that was built or refurbished before the year 2000.

  • Surveys and survey planning
  • Assessing the competency of surveyors and QA procedures
  • Duty holder responsibilities and the role of the Appointed Person
  • Overview of the uses of asbestos
